I was in a cafe for a breather when a couple of guys with obvious mental health problems came in with their respective carers. What struck me was that despite invitations to join their carers at their table, both men chose to sit alone on separate tables. The guy in the picture was very animated, clearly enjoying his cup of tea, and perhaps the independance of sitting "alone". I wondered about this isolation. Did he consciously feel "different" to everyone else and so chose to sit alone, for whatever reason? Or did he enjoy a moment of relative solitude, or self determination in what could be a very controlled and ordered life?
